Beneficiaries consult with bankers and professionals during career fair held on 30th June 2008 Another Careers and Mentors day was organized for the last quarter of the project year and was held on 30 June 2008, at the Methodist guest house and Conference Centre grounds.
The overall goal of this function was to expose beneficiaries to the real world situations of Business and Career development through their personal interactions with Financiers, successful Professionals and Entrepreneurs, as well as Employers.
This quarter’s career fair was attended by representatives from Faulu Kenya, Microsoft and the International youth foundation. I33 beneficiaries were present.
Since the program seeks to link these enterprising women with financial resources, Mr. Morris Newa on behalf of Faulu Kenya gave a keynote address in which he advised the young women entrepreneurs-to-be to start businesses for the right reasons and build them on a solid foundation. He discouraged young women from getting into business as a last resort after failing to secure employment, which he said was not reason enough to sustain a viable business.
Mr. Newa mentioned that Faulu Kenya was indeed in the business of lending out money, but does preferably give loans to groups of entrepreneurs with on-going businesses. Mr. Newa went ahead to talk to the young women and attend to their individual concerns, while also advising them on how to access services and resources offered by Faulu Kenya.
During the interactive session, beneficiaries were able to access career information from the careers’ desk and also had a lot of their business issues sorted out by a business expert at the business desk.
On her part, Ms. Laura Bures, a visiting representative from the International Youth Foundation, thanked ACWICT for organizing the occasion, and expressed her pleasure at having interacted with beneficiaries of the employability program that has been dubbed ‘Reaching the Un-reached’. |
