Milestones and Achievements
  • ACWICT has been recognized by the United Nations Fund for International Partnership (UNFIP) as a key contact in Africa for bridging the gender digital divide through strategic partnerships.
  • In September 2003, ACWICT’s Project, AgriTradeKenya (ATK) was voted one of the most promising social-enterprise in the category of ICTs, Agriculture and Rural Development by the Digital Partners Social Enterprise Laboratories (SEL) program from a group of 130 entrants worldwide. Digital Partners is a non-profit organization based in the United States. The organization works to alleviate poverty on a global scale through deployment of technology to assist development efforts.
  • ACWICT’s communiqué provided a blueprint that informed Kenya government’s national ICT policy on gender.
  • Pioneered the successful implementation of the Gender and Governance Programme (GGP) by designing a website hence providing a platform for women leaders to share ideas. GGP is an initiative mooted under the auspices of the United Nations Fund for Women (UNIFEM).
  • Successful design and launch of USAWA, an E-newsletter for the Gender and Governance Programme.
  • In 2007, profiled 600 women aspirants for the presidential, parliamentary and civic elecyions. The profiles were disseminated through the Gender and Governance Programme website.
  • ACWICT is a steering committee member of the Open Knowledge Network (OKN) initiative in Kenya and the Kenya World Summit on the Information Society Civil Society Caucus.
  • ACWICT was identified as a key strategic partner and participant in the business incubation in Kenya and, through its Executive Director, sits on the ICT Technical Committee of the Kenya Kountry Business Incubator [ KeKoBi]
